Descale Kettles Bottle Warmers Sterlisers - Make your own skincare

Descale a kettle, Bottle Warmer, Sterilisers isn't exactly Skincare, however it is a question which I am frequently asked on how to achieve this using natural products.
When asked I always recommend using Citric Acid, because it is considered to be a safe biodegradable natural ingredient, and can be used as a natural and environmentally biodegradable cleaning agent and will descale (amongst other things) quickly and effeciently as well. Plus much quicker than using vinegar.
Recommended by all the well known Baby Sterlising/ Bottle Warmer Manufacturers, such as Avent, who advise the use of Citric Acid to de scale their electical sterilisers and bottle warmers.
So how much to you need? Depending on how hard your water is of course, you may need only one application, but if very hard you may need to repeat it. As a rule of thumb I use approximately a tablespoon full per 200ml of water and that should produce some sparkling results!
To ensure maximum performance and effeciency, it is recommended that you de scale your machines approx every 4 - 6 weeks, depending how hard the water is in your area. This will improve how effectively your machine will operate and save you money!
It is the most effcient to clean, remove stains, sterilise, de-scale and remove hard water deposits from many of your household things see below:
Ideally suited for descaling baby bottle warmers, descaling amd sterilising babies bottle steriliser units not to mention the kettle, dishwasher, sinks and taps and irons!

How to Descale an an Electrical Sterilier Unit Dissolve approximatley 10grams Citric Powder to every 200 ml of water, and follow your manufacturers recommendations. If you do not have scales which weigh in 1g increments, no problems as this does not have to be exact, a desert spoon is about equal.
I use less, as I find this citric acid is really effective which makes this better value than ever! I leave it to de scale for around 15 minutes, but I always recomend that you follow your manufacturers instructions.
Descale an Eletric Kettle Fill your keetle to half full and boil as normal, then add 1 or 2 desertspoons of Citric Acid and simply leave for approx 20 minutes, do not worry if you forget it does not harm the kettle! Then pour away and rinse thoroughly, you will have a fantastic sparkling kettle!
Descale and Clean your Washing Machine fill the main soap cup in the washing machine with approx 20 - 30g of citric acid run a full wash cycle without any clothes in the machine. This will ensure all mineral deposits, lime build up and soap build up are removed by the citric aid and improve the performance and lifetime of your machine.
For Water softening This is ideal if you have hard water, add a little to your washing powder drawer in your washing machine, this will help your washing liquids or powders work better, as the citric acid helps to soften your water and this allows your liquids or powders to foam better therefore clean your clothes more efficiently.
Remove Hard Water marks from glass, (Shower Doors) Citric acid is the active ingredient in some bathroom and kitchen cleaning solutions. Make up a paste of citirc acid and apply directly to the marks with a sponge and this will remove the marks without scrubbing scrubbing.
Certainly a packet of this will last for some time and is a very versatile item to have your kitchen cupboards! I nearly forgot, you can make some delicious Sherbert Lemon Powder too!
